The SR211 project in Barrow County involved extensive upgrades and replacements to both water and sewer infrastructure to improve reliability, capacity, and service life. The scope of work included installation of new water mains ranging from 2 inches to 18 inches in diameter, constructed with Class 350 ductile iron pipe and SDR 26 PVC. Project included the installation of 8 new gate valves assemblies from 6” to 18” diameter. Also included the installation of 16” plug valves and multiple air release valves. The project also included the installation of new fire hydrants, relocation of existing water meters, and abandonment of outdated water valves to modernize the system.
The sewer system improvements featured the installation of ductile iron sanitary sewer pipe, new sanitary sewer force mains ranging from 4 inches to 16 inches, and construction of sanitary sewer manholes to GDOT specifications. Specialized work included 24” – 48” steel casing installations via open-cut methods, water meter vault installation, the installation of 18” DIP reuse waterlines, and air testing of installed sanitary sewer manholes. Traffic control and mobilization measures ensured safety and efficiency throughout construction. By integrating water and sewer upgrades within the project, the improvements provided long-term benefits to the community, reduced maintenance needs, and enhanced system performance in compliance with GDOT and local utility standards.
